His family moved to Seward where he graduated from Seward High School-Class of 1942. Following graduation, he enlisted and served in the Army Air Corp, his tour of duty included serving in the intelligence division for the 8th Air Force-446th Bombardment Group stationed in Bungay, England.
After VE Day in 1945, Bob returned to Nebraska to attend the University of Nebraska under the G.I. bill and married Dorothy Grace Gubser from Ulysses, Nebraska. The two established a home on the original family farm. The family grew with the addition of a son (Roger Lynn Semler) and a daughter (Nancy Mather Quirus).
The farm operation grew and diversified to include; cattle feeding and custom land-leveling. Together Bob and Dorothy successfully farmed side by side for 48 years then; they enjoyed many trips and were semi-retired to Mesa Arizona for 35 years enjoying warm, sunny winters. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary together.
Later in life, Bob was very fortunate to find a ‘new home’ first at Heartland Park Retirement Center in Seward, Nebraska. He thrived as part of the Heartland independent community; then he transferred to Ridgewood Rehabilitation & Care Center also in Seward. He and his family were especially grateful for the many years of staff assistance/care and compassion.
