Roger Weston July 08, 1935 – May 06, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook On July 8, 1935, in Charleston, South Carolina, George M. Weston and Sarah Weston were blessed with the birth of their son, Roger Roy Weston. Roger received his education in the public schools of Charleston County. Thereafter, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge.

Roger then moved to New York City and was employed by Whittaker Vinyl in Farmingdale, New York. While living with his eldest sister and brother-in-law, Roger met Mattie, who was his brother-in law’s niece. The two quickly went from roommates to dating, and within two years were married on May 5, 1962.

In 1975, Roger and Mattie moved their family to Jackie Robinson Houses. Over the years, he became lovingly known as “the man in the window,” who always waved and watched everyone as they left for work or school and returned in the evening. Roger was baptized at an early age.

He believed in God and prayer. He instilled in his children the importance of prayer, trusting God, helping others in need, and honoring their elders. Roger was a small man, with a very big heart.

He was loving, compassionate, and had a reputation for always helping others. He was reful, reliable, and you could always depend on him to give it straight, no chaser. Roger loved music.

One could always tell what mood he was in based on the song he played over and over again well past 11 pm. Some of his favorites included Isaac Hayes, BB King, Staple Singers and The Dells. Roger loved playing his Alto Saxophone and his bass guitar.

He enjoyed current events, world news, and could be found sitting for hours watching CNN. He was also a black history buff. His mantra was, “You gotta know where you come from”.

Roger was preceded in death by his sisters, Edna Richardson, Pauline Ann Weston, Sarah Alice Ball, and his brother James (Blue) Weston. Roger departed this life on Monday, May 6, 2019, peacefully in his sleep. He leaves to cherish his precious memory: his beautiful wife of 57 years, Mattie Ruth Weston; his loving daughters, Evg.

Deborah Ann Weston, Tammy Weston-Jackson (James), , loving son, Paul Roy Weston (Daniele); 7 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, 3 great grandchildren, brother, Elijah Weston, sister, Mary Weston, and a host of nieces nephews, relatives, and dear friends. Honorary Mention: Fatima, Jamie, Magaly, Onicer, and Shakera—the family is forever grateful for the care, compassion, patience and love you extended to their beloved Roger.
