ROY ALBERT “PETE” MITCHEM, age 71, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 5:59 p.m. at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born on September 12, 1946 in Fayette County to Chester Francis and Gladys Marie Saltz Mitchem. He was a 1964 graduate of Miami Trace High School; after graduation he attended technical school for computer programming.

Pete retired from Armco Steel in 2004. He had been a member at the New Holland Methodist Church and the New Holland Masonic Lodge Post# 392. He enjoyed fishing, vacationing in Myrtle Beach and Gatlinburg, politics, and being with his family.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, David Kahler; mother-in-law, Mary West Stroh; and father-in-law, Floyd West. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Ann West Mitchem, whom he married on September 27, 1969; children, Matthew Mitchem, and Alan Mitchem; sister, Frances (Bill) Kahler; nieces, Phyllis Kahler, and Diane (Tony) Teixeira; sister-in-law, Nancy (Robert) Rhodes; niece, Emily Wright; and nephew, Ethan Wright. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The graveside service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Holland Cemetery with Danny Dodds officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Summers Funeral Home.
