Obituary for Ruth Cole (Hamilton) Calhoun City—Ruth Evelyn Hamilton Cole, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Bruce Living Center on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Born June 8, 1930, in the Wardwell Community, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Gaston and the late Ruby Leola Hardin Hamilton. She was a graduate of Derma High School, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Calhoun City.

Ms. Ruth married the love of her life, Norman Boyd Cole, and together they had a daughter and a son. She was also honored to raise some of her nine brothers and sisters. She was passionate about her family, and loved to cook fried chicken for them and gather as often as possible.

She was a social lady, and never missed an opportunity to spend time with her friends and family. Ms. Ruth loved beautiful clothes, jewelry, and getting dressed up. She was graceful, charming, and a true description of a virtuous woman.

She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Ms. Ruth was the owner of Ruth’s Drapery in Calhoun City for 50 years. She was known for her drapery and decorating throughout Mississippi and the surrounding states.

She was the Grand Marshall of the Calhoun City Parade, on the FBC Decorating Committee, and Chamber of Commerce President. Ms. Ruth was chosen as Citizen of the Year and received a Key to the City. Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 11:00am at First Baptist Church in Calhoun City. There will also be a visitation held on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the church. Dr. Anthony Kay and Bro.

Darrell Logan will be officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Cole, Ben Cole, Walt Edington, Joe Edmondson, William Evans, Justin Wade, Larry Pace, and Jan Shelton. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Burt, Brenda Cannon, Jeff Cannon, Michael Joe Cannon, James Bailey Caviness, J.R. Denton, James Howard Easley, Melissa Edmondson, Stephanie Edmondson, Al Gilless, Billy Grady, Jefferey Hall, Barry Hamilton, Brett Leigh Hamilton, Jimmy Hubbard, Cary Iverson, Bruce Longest, Jerry Moore, Paul Moore, Jr., Kevin Pace, and Ryan Pace.

She leaves behind her daughter, Shelia Cole Logan; a son, Boyd Hamilton (Judy) Cole; granddaughters Heather Nicole Logan Stewart and husband Chad, and Amber Cole Stephenson; great-grandchildren, Logan Cole Stewart, Lane Chadwick Stewart, Lucas “Luke” Benjamin Stewart, Cheyenne Stephenson, Jordan Evans, Emma Floyd, Halley Cole, Taylor Hyland, Braylon Cole, and Harli Hinton; one great-great grandchild, Emerie Evans; a brother, Billy Bert (Doris) Hamilton; sisters, Carolyn Hamilton Henson, Jean Hamilton (Joe Carl) Sanderson, Gloria Hamilton (Al) Gilless, Gwen Hamilton (Larry) Pace, and June (Grover) Edington. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norman Boyd Cole, son-in-law, Jerry “Satch” Logan, grandsons, Brad Hamilton Cole and Roy Brandon Cole, brother, Hugh Anderson Hamilton; sisters, Peggy Sue Hamilton Hodge, and Shelba Joyce Hamilton Willis. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Calhoun City First Baptist Church, Creative Learning Center (FBC, Bruce), or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
