Obituary for Samantha “Sammie” Showalter Stickel Gallentine Samantha “Sammie’ Showalter Stickel Gallentine, 96, of Connellsville, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wed. April 11, 2018 at her home.
She was born April 11, 1922 in Connellsville, the daughter of the late August C., Sr. and Sarah Etta Showalter Stickel. Sammie was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1940. During her school years she was active in sports and music.
Her interest in music continued throughout her life and she was a member of the Connellsville Choral Society and church choir. Sammie was employed by several area businesses throughout her life, but none compared to the 805th Air Force Supply Depot, during World War II, where she served as a civilian telegrapher. Sammie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Connellsville and was active with various committees, such as the Woman’s Missionary Society, Board of Deacons, and Choir member and soloist.
In addition o her parents Sammie was predeceased by her husband Robert D. Gallentine Sr. on Sept. 4, 1998, and her brothers H.Clay Stickel, August C. Stickel Jr., and Eugene S. Stickel. Sammie is survived by her sons Robert Gallentine, Jr., Richard Gallentine, and Gary Gallentine, along with numerous grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and several nephews, nieces, and a sister Sarah Etta Stickel Work.
Family and friends will be received Sun. from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville (724-628-1430) where a Funeral Service will be held Mon. at 1:00 PM, with Rev.
Will Hough officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery, Mill Run. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the First Baptist Church, 301 S. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville Pa.
