Shelva Jean’s Obituary Marion, Va. Shelva Jean Chaney, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 23, 2019 while resting peacefully at home. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Abram Harrington Lowe Sr. and Josie Ann Testerman; husband Clarence “Smokey” Chaney; sisters Virginia Atwell and Clyde Finley; and brothers, Harrington “June”, Earnest, Garland, Ira Lee, Archie, Marshall “Mi” Lowe and Fred Balthazar, brothers-in-law Glenn Teaster, Robert Gilley, and Maden Atwell.

Jean was a devoted wife and mother. She unconditionally helped others whenever she learned of the need. She enjoyed gardening, yard sales, auctions, and visiting family and friends.

She worked as a school crossing guard for many years. Her raw grit and determination served her well to overcome physical pain and to live life in its fullness. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and shared words of encouragement through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Survivors include five children, Mark Chaney, wife Brenda, Marion, Curtis Chaney, Marion, Cheryl Chaney, Finksburg, Md. , Wendy Chaney Collins, Strasburg, Va. , Curtis Lee Chaney, Atkins; 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, sisters Lucille Teaster, Margaret Gilley, Maxine Hamm and husband, Tom; brother Earl Lowe and wife, Kathy; sisters-in-law Darlene Lowe, Shirley Lowe, Theresa Balthazar, Brenda Riley; brother-in-law George Chaney and Cecil Chaney, her special companion, Shadow and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday May 29, 2019 from the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Carlton Houck and Pastor David Gary officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00PM on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
