Velda McCormick, 79, of Olin passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2018 in the Hospice Care Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olin with a visitation before from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in rural Monticello. Lahey & Dawson Funeral Service is assisting the family at this time.

Velda Addie Mairie was born on June 16, 1939 in Manchester, Iowa to Paul and Lorna (Gienapp) Christiansen. She graduated from Coggon High School. For almost 55 years she was united in marriage to the love of her life Larry McCormick.

For many years she worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids. Velda was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olin. She enjoyed puzzles, watching TV, attending to her flowers and rock garden.

She spent much of her time playing and relaxing with her kittens. For many years she sold AVON in the Olin Community. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Larry, son Rodney McCormick of Olin, daughter Rebecca McCormick of Cedar Rapids, two sisters; Ruth Kray of Anamosa, Edna Behneke of Prairieburg and a brother Laverne McCormick of Alburnett.

She was greeted in heaven by her parents and a brother Marvin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to her family in her honor, Rebecca McCormick 5001 Pine Grove Drive NE Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402.
