Velma (Perkins) Tanzilli Osting, 94, went home to be with her Heavenly Father, May 25, 2019. Velma is survived by her two children, LuAnn Tanzilli and Carolyn (Alan) Howell, 2 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Velma was born on September 7, 1924 in Elwood to Roy A. and Hazel (Booth) Perkins.

She graduated from Wendell Willkie High School and the following year married the love of her life, Leo J. Tanzilli, who preceded her in death in 1978. In 1993 Velma Married Vern Osting and lost him the same year to serious illness. Following high school, Velma was a legal secretary for 10 years with a local attorney.

In 1952 Leo and Velma began their family and enjoyed growing together in the Elwood community. Velma energetically served in many parish auxiliaries and shared her music and love for God in dedication as St. Joseph’s Church organist for 17 years. In her later years she enjoyed working in her beautiful flower garden.

Velma lovingly guided a small group of Brownie Scouts through life’s journeys as a mentor, musician and choreographer. Of all her accomplishments, Velma’s greatest achievements have been in the lives of her family and friends. She had a unique gift to recognize and appreciate the talents in others and to make them feel loved and lifted by her presence.

Her creative mind, kind heart and brilliant smile allowed her to make everything from her Bible Study lessons to her gifts of music and choreography for many local performing groups sparkle. He generous heart filled her home with love, fun, family and friends, including an attitude that there was always room for one more. She leaves her children and grandchildren with the knowledge that they were truly loved and they know that she loved the Lord.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 6pm-8pm, with a Rosary at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood. Concelebrants Fr. Keith Hosey and Fr.

Dan Duff will officiate the Celebration of Velma’s life and Funeral Mass will be Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood. Catholic Burial Rites will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood. Online condolences can be given at www.
