Venic Hyd Sorensen , April 06, 1931 — February 23, 2019

Our angelic mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend passed peacefully from this life to the next on February 23, 2019. Venice was born in Logan, UT, on April 6, 1931, to Amasa William Hyde and Ruey Taggart of Lewiston, UT. While growing up, her best friend was her sister, Ileen, who was just 13 months younger.

They learned to work hard on the family farm and did everything together including singing and playing the piano. Being a child of the depression, Venice learned to be frugal at an early age and could make a little go a long way. She graduated from North Cache High School and afterward attended Utah State.

She completed her studies with a degree in elementary education from BYU. She taught in the Alpine School District for seven years. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Eastern States Mission where she spent the majority of her time in Manhattan as secretary to President Gerald Smith.

Later, she served as a visiting teacher, Primary President, and Relief Society President twice. In 1964, a cousin introduced her to a dapper young Thiokol chemist, Foster J. Sorensen, and on June 14, 1965, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They had two children and eight grandchildren who were the lights of her life.

Venice enjoyed quilting and was an early member of the Piecemakers Quilt Guild. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and candy maker. She is survived by her children, Julie Adams (Jeff) and Bradford Sorensen (Toree); grandchildren: Austin, Quintin, Dallin, Connor, Ryan, Joshua, Brock, and Maddison; and one brother, J. Stanley Hyde (Kathryn) of Portland, OR.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster, and siblings: LaMonte, Milton, Glenna, Norris, Farrell, Ramona, Ileen, and Rhea. We would like to thank the staff at Rocky Mountain Rehab, Maple Springs Assisted Living, and CNS Hospice for their loving care of our mom. They thwarted her many escape attempts, but she finally found a way out.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11:00a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Brigham City 15th Ward, 203 N. 200 W., Brigham City, UT. Viewings will be Friday, March 8, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
