Ford-Callaway, age 68, of Odanah, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. She was born on November 17, 1950 in Milwaukee the daughter of Phyllis Ford. Verla graduated from South Division High School in Milwaukee in 1968.

She attended the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and studied Sociology and minored in Cosmetology. She worked at the Briggs and Stratton Corporation in Milwaukee for many years. Verla married Charles Callaway on February 14, 1991 in Dallas, Texas.

They moved to Milwaukee in 1994, and then to Bowler, WI in 2001, before moving to Odanah in 2003. She was an avid Bingo attendant and an avid casino enthusiast. Verla was also a 19-year cancer survivor.

She survived by her husband, Charles Callaway of Odanah, a daughter, Sondra Ford – Odanah, a son, William Ford – Odanah, 3 grandchildren, Olivia, Lisa and Lily, several cherished great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Donald (Rae) Ford – Black River Falls, Scott Ford – Odanah, 2 sisters, Linda Heider – Marinette and Sharon Schegonee – Odanah and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Lemieux-Ford and 4 siblings, Bruce Ford, Loretta Jean Ford, Lawrence “Beaver” Ford and Arthur Ford. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the Bad River Housing Authority with visitation from 5:00 – 9:00 P.M., Tuesday also at the Bad River Housing Authority.

Burial will take place in the Odanah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The Frost Home For funerals in Ashland is handling the arrangements.
