DeForest – Vicki Lynn Abata, age 69, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, surrounded by her loving family. Vicki is survived by her husband of 42 years, Daniel Abata; children, Michael and Tony; sisters, Connie and Kathy; along with her extended loving family. Vicki had many passions in life including reading, gardening and teaching.

Vicki loved to travel, especially to the beaches of Coronado Island in San Diego. She had a green thumb and a love for animals. Vicki was born in Bremen, Indiana to Elmer and Betty Botset.

Vicki was the oldest of three sisters. She graduated salutatorian at Bremen High School, and went on to graduate from South Bend Memorial Hospital Nursing School. Vicki practiced nursing across the Midwest for sixteen years.

She found a second career as preschool teacher at A Growing Place Preschool for fifteen years. The Abata Family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses for their constant, compassionate care over the eleven years of Vicki’s Parkinson’s journey. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the DeForest Area Public Library Endowment in honor of Vicki’s love for books.
