William “Bill” Joseph Hutchinson, III February 15, 1952 – February 23, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook William “Bill” Joseph Hutchinson, III, 67, of Charlottesville passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019. He was born on February 15, 1952, in Charlottesville to the late William Hutchinson, Jr. and Edna Mae Hutchinson. After attending Charlottesville schools, including Lane High School from which he graduated in 1970, he later became the Girls Softball Coach at Albemarle High School, a position he held for 25 years.

There was little he loved more than coaching and teaching the game, but his true passion was his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to coaching, Bill played fast pitch softball for several teams from the Charlottesville area and was selected as an alternate for the Pan-Am games. He was also a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Doris Gibson Hutchinson; his son Christopher and his wife Jennifer, and his daughter, Jennifer Shifflett. He is also survived by his brothers; Jeff and his wife Karen, Jerry and his wife Joyce, and his adoptive brother Stan Horowski; his sisters; Shirlyne and her husband Joe, and Linda Reynolds; and by his grandchildren: Hailee, Abigail, Arynn, and Aric. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and countless young women whom he coached over the years.

The family will receive friends from 5p.m. to 7p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at First Baptist Church on Park Street. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church on Park Street at 11a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2019, with Rev. Robert Price of Bethany Baptist officiating.

Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Bethany Baptist Church at PO Box 4861, Charlottesville, VA 22905 or the Albemarle High School Softball Program at Albemarle High School, Attn: Softball, 2775 Hydraulic Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
