William Henry Ervin January 27, 1928 – January 25, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card William Henry “Bill” Ervin, 90, of West Oakdale, Freeland, died Friday, January 25th at St. Lukes’ Hospital, Allentown, 2 days shy of his 91st birthday. Born in Freeland, he was the son of the late Merman Roy Ervin and Amelia (Hilliard) Ervin. Bill was a veteran of World War II and served his country as a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Freeland. Prior to his retirement from Barrett and Haentjens, Inc., Hazleton, he was previously employed at Nautilus Industries, Freeland. Bill loved to play BINGO and listen to Polka music.

He was an avid Penn State Football fan and loved to root for the Philadelphia Eagles and Philies…when they were winning. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Myron, Robert, Arvilla Ernhart, Marion Grushefsky, Alice Hinkle, and Ruth Viscount. Surviving are his wife of 68 years whom he adored, the former Marie Manna; children, Debra Bognet and her husband, Dr. Joseph Bognet, Allentown, and William J. Ervin and his wife Nancy (Soika), of Harleigh; sister, Berdene Ondishin of Hazleton; granddaughter, Kaia Leigh Bognet; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00 AM from the Butler Chapel of Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 530 West Butler Drive, Drums. The service will continue with a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in the Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish, (St. Ann’s Church) 898 Centre Street, Freeland. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.

Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Monday morning from 9:00 AM until time of service. Memorial donations to St. Thomas More School, 1040 Flexer Avenue, Allentown, PA 18103 are welcomed by the family.
