William “Larry” Johnson, 68 Boardman – William L. Johnson, 68, passed away Sunday morning, March 10, 2019 at Hospice House with his loving family by his side. William, known by his family and friends as “Larry,” was born January 21,1951 in Youngstown, the son of the late William and Grace (Prater) Johnson. A lifelong area resident, Larry was a 1969 graduate of Springfield High School and received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Youngstown State University in 1982, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

For 40 years, Larry worked for General Motors and served as a committeeman at the Lordstown Complex. After retiring from General Motors, Larry worked in the Pro Shop at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Hermitage for over 9 years. Larry was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates and playing golf in his free time.

He loved spending time with family and attending his grandchildren’s numerous activities. Larry is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Deborah A. Steib, whom he married on June 12, 1971; two sons, Steven M. (Elizabeth) Johnson of North Lima and Christopher (Jennifer) Johnson of Canfield; three grandsons, Jackson, Quin, and Cooper Johnson; and four granddaughters, Samantha, Kendall, Parker, and Chloe Johnson. Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Kermit Prater and sister-in-law, Patricia Prater of Brookfield.

Per Larry’s requests, private services were held. There are no calling hours. The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association, 840 Southwestern Run, Youngstown, Ohio 44514, in memory of Larry.
