Obituary for William R. “Bill” Mitchell William R. “Bill” Mitchell, age 88, of Orrville, passed away at his residence on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Born on March 2, 1930, in Massillon, OH, Bill was the son of the late Dr. William Frederick and Margaret (Robbins) Mitchell. He was united in marriage to Barbara Voight on May 21, 1955, in Huron, OH.

She survives. Bill was a 1952 graduate of Bowling Green State University where he received his BS degree in geology. He would serve his country in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 as a lieutenant during the Korean Conflict including service along the DMZ in South Korea.

Bill was a former purchasing and security agent for First National Bank in Orrville until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Orrville. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Wayne County Historical Society, Wooster Camera Club, American Legion Post 282, Wayne County Archaeological Society, and The Wilderness Center.

An Eagle Scout, Bill had life-long involvement with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed traveling, photography and nature. In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by a son, Doug (Jill) Mitchell of Norfolk, VA; daughter, Ellen Eddowes of Virginia Beach, VA; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Tull of Delaware, OH; and five nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and was the grandson and great grandson of Presbyterian missionaries who would settle in Wooster. His father’s brother, Dr. Hugh (Winifred) Mitchell, lived in Fredericksburg and his father’s sister, Rachel Mitchell, was a nurse in Wooster for many years. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, cremation will take place with burial in the Wooster Cemetery.

Announcement regarding the memorial service will be at a later date. Auble Funeral Home in Orrville is assisting the family with arrangements. Online registry and expressions of condolence may be made at the funeral home web site at www.

The family would like to thank Bill’s neighbors, the Orrville community, First Presbyterian members and friends, the membership of the various clubs that Bill was involved with, and a special thanks to the staff and “classmates” at the cardiac rehab center at Aultman Hospital in Orrville. Your friendship and care was invaluable and greatly appreciated by Bill and the family over the past few years.
