Alden “Jack” Lane Wood May 30, 1931 – February 15, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Alden “Jack” Lane Wood, 87 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 15, 2019 at New Life Hospice in Lorain, following a full an meaningful life. He was born May 30, 1931 in Jackson County, North Carolina. Jack was raised in Tennessee before moving with his family at the age of 11 to Dayton, Ohio.

He had made his home in South Amherst for the last fifty-five years. He was employed doing Highway Construction as a Superintendant. Jack was proud that he built roads not only in the USA, but also in Cambodia.

Jack owned and operated Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland, Ohio retiring in 1996. He was a member of Beacon Baptist Church in Lorain. His hobbies included woodworking and fishing.

He and his wife traveled extensively and spent their winters in Arizona. Jack loved his dogs. Survivors include his daughters Rita Renee Haynes (Dennis) of South Amherst, Jonna Kae Miller (Theodore) of Marietta, GA; his daughter in law June Ann Wood (Bowsher) of Wellington; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of Sixty-seven years Mary Elizabeth Wood on November 16, 2017; his son Michael Wood in 2017; his grandson Matthew Haynes; two brothers and five sisters; and his parents Early and Polly Wood (nee: Nicholson). Friends may call Monday, February 18, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave. , Amherst.

Rev. Aaron Webb, pastor of Beacon Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
