Obituary for Ann Doniphan Smith Bailes Ann Doniphan Smith Bailes, 80, of Hurricane, passed away peacefully with family by her side on September 8, 2018, at Genesis Putnam Center after a long illness. Ann was born in Oak Hill, West Virginia, on May 24, 1938, to the late Anderson Doniphan Smith, III, and Nancy Margaret Penrod Smith. She graduated from Collins High School as part of the Class of 1956.

Ann was a family woman, and it was always evident how much she loved each and every person in her family. She took on many roles over the years: Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Aunt. She never ran out of love to give, and she cherished every moment with her family.

She loved quilting, a hobby she shared with her husband, and bowling, a hobby she enjoyed for over forty years with friends and family. She also loved crocheting, reading, and camping. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her devoted husband of nearly 56 years, Maxwell “Max” Eugene Bailes, Sr.; her beloved aunt and uncle, Mary and Ernest Goode; her loving brother, Robert Douglas Smith; and her best furry pal, Chipper.

She is survived by her children, Maxwell “Eugene” Bailes, Jr. (Brenda) and Margaret Ann Bailes Parsons (Rodney); grandchildren, Robert Alan Bauer (Heather), Johnathan David Parsons (Amy), Maxwell “Max” Eugene Bailes, III (Vanessa), Jessica Nicole Parsons Sullivan (Matthew), and Amanda Dawn Bailes; great-grandchildren, Grant Avery Williams, Natalie Grace Bauer, Mackinsey Sue Parsons, Amelia Ray Williams, Dallas Cameron Parsons, Braxton Michael Bailes, Haylee Jo Bauer, Wesley David Alexander Parsons, Bradley Scott Bailes, Brantley Allen Bailes, and Travis Lee Parsons; nephews, Robert “Rob” Douglas Smith, Jr. (Shelley) and Michael Eugene Smith; and great-niece, Autumn Pearl Smith. She is also survived by her dearest brother-in-law, Larry Joe Bailes (Eunice); dearest sisters-in-law, Etha Gertrude “Trudy” Bailes (Steve) and Sandy Jeanne Smith, dearest cousins, Tom and Jane Goode, and a long list of dear family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Chapman Funeral Home at 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, with Reverend Peggy Larck officiating.

Visitation with family will begin two hours prior to the service on Tuesday at 12:00pm. Friends are welcome at 1:00pm. Burial will immediately follow the service at Valley View Memorial Park on Main Street in Hurricane.
