Obituary for Robert “Bob” Eugene Stanley Robert Eugene “Bob” Stanley, passed away on October 26, 2018 at home after a long illness with his loving wife, Pat by his side. Born June 4, 1931 in Hinton, WV, he was the son of the late, Joseph Allen and Anna Carden Stanley. Bob grew up and attended schools in Beckley, WV and graduated with the class of 1949.

He is also a graduate of Northwestern University Traffic Institute with a major in Police Management and Administration. He was a member of the West Virginia State Police from 1953 to 1979, retiring as Lt. Colonel/Deputy Superintendent.

He became Managing Director and President of the West Virginia Motor Truck Association. He devoted more than 51 years to highway safety. He is a 61 year member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Past President of the Trucking Association Executive Council of America, and life member of other organizations, too numerous to list.

He is a member of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge 159 A.F. & A. M., Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, The Legion of Honor, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Jesters, Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion Post 112. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane. Bob is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet Patricia Stanley; their son, Joseph Andrew Stanley and his wife Angela Stanley and grandson, Robert Andrew Stanley of Culloden.

He was very proud of his son, daughter-in-law and grandson. He is also survived by a niece, nephew and numerous cousins. Bob was a combat Marine, First Marine Division/Headquarters Company serving in Korea from 1951-1952.

The family wishes to thank his caregiver, Gary Laslo for his tender loving, care and support. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Monday, October 29, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane. Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday October 30, 2018 at the funeral home with the Rev.

Jerry Losh officiating. Burial with military honors and Masonic graveside rites will follow in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Beni Kedem Shrine Transportation Fund, 100 Quarrier St. Charleston, WV 25301.
