Obituary for Patty Jean Lewis Patty Lewis, 64, passed away at home, peacefully on September 28, 2018. She was born on January 20, 1954 to Mervin Allen Grant and Vonda Irene Grant. In addition to her parents, Patty was preceded in death by sisters; Shirley Ann Whitt and Ima Gail McDaniel, and niece, Kathy Jo.

Patty was an A+ student graduating from Hurricane High School in 1971. She thrived in school, involved in many scholastic activities. She graduated with honors.

After high school Patty worked as a secretary for Moses Cadillac in Huntington. Later she worked for PB&S Chemical in St. Albans. Patty married John Lewis on October 30, 1982.

They resided on Lakeview Drive in Hurricane for many years. In 1983 Patty gave birth to the love of her life, Amy Michelle Lewis. Raising Amy bought her much joy.

She stayed at home and as her mother Vonda became older she devoted her time to caring for her. She was always one to remember birthdays. She loved shopping.

Christmas was her favorite time of year. Patty had been ill for two years, going on three. On January 20, 2016 she fell on her birthday and never truly recovered.

She had some good days though. She always gave thanks to the Lord for being as well as she was. For all of her accomplishments, Patty was most proud of her salvation and that she been a mother, wife, daughter, sister, and aunt.

She loved everyone she came in contact with and they loved her. She attended Adda Baptist growing up, then attended First Baptist Church of Hurricane, where she sang in the choir. She attended Hurricane Bible Church for many years and went back to her home church Adda Baptist.

Patty leaves behind her husband; John Lewis, daughter and son in law, Amy and Matt Crook; sisters, Carolyn Stanley, Diana Persinger and Debbie Forth of Hurricane; brothers, Billy Grant of Columbus, OH and Jim Grant Grant of Hurricane. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, October 5, 2018, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane.

Burial will follow in Lower Hodges Cemetery, Hurricane. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. You may share memories of Patty on her tribute page by visiting ChapmanFuneralHomes.com.
