She was 93. Gussie was born on December 17, 1924, in Scranton, PA, the daughter of the late Cleveland McKean and the late Jennie Pedley McKean.

She was married to Dr. Daniel P. Schultz for 42 years prior to his death in 1988. Gussie was first and foremost a homemaker (or “household executive”, a term she preferred), and also a registered nurse and consultant for May Kay cosmetics. Gussie volunteered for over 30 years with the Red Cross Mobile Blood Drive, and later as a Greeter at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC. What Gussie valued most was being with family and friends.

Holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas were always major family events, but she also enjoyed the chicken barbeque at the farm or the church supper gatherings because they were times when the family could be together. Having a family that would remain close to each other was always very important to her. Gussie’s grandchildren adored her.

They always looked forward to seeing and hanging out with Nanny when they came to visit. Gussie’s children, her daughters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews have been given the gift of wonderful memories and the values of a strong family because of her. She was well loved.
