Bettie Fairchild, 96, formerly of Watsontown, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Evangelical Community Hospital. Born March 12, 1922 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Paul D. and Minnie S. (Tanner) Werner. She was married to the Honorable Kenneth R. Fairchild for 63 years until his death November 17, 2003.

She was a 1940 graduate of the former Watsontown High School and retired from the Warrior Run School District. She was a member of the Warrior Run Fire Company Auxiliary and the First Presbyterian Church of Watsontown. Bettie was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and playing cards, especially Pinochle.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth P. and Joan Fairchild of Whitehouse, OH; three daughters and sons-in-law: Susan J. and Ronald Cottett of Constantia, NY; Sally Ann and Bill Boles of Cleburne, TX; and Patricia K. and William A. Cushing of Pike Creek, DE; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides her husband were a bother, Delmar Werner and a sister, Louise Hicks. Friends and family are invited to call from 12 noon to 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Brooks Funeral Home and Cremation Svc.

,PC, 124 Main Street, Watsontown where the funeral will be held at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Paul A. Smith, her pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Bettie’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of NEPA, 71 No. Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701. Her family would like to thank everyone at Nottingham Village for their kindness and care of their mother the past few years.
