Betty S.’s Obituary Betty S. Shields, 90, entered into eternal life and into the everlasting arms of her Lord and Savior on February 9, 2019 at her Dillsburg home. Born on August 16, 1928 in Mechanicsburg, PA, Betty was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Weaver Stambaugh. Betty is survived by her three children, Lynn (Joann) Shields, Bonnie Mehls, both of Dillsburg, and Darryl S. Shields of Mechanicsburg, six grandchildren Tracy, Jennifer, and Holly Shields of Dillsburg, Steve Shields of Carlisle, Linnea Mehls of Moultrie, GA, and Kelton (Brittany) Mehls of Murfressboro, TN, nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved cat, Topper.

Betty was a lifelong member of Shepherdstown United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, assisting in the kitchen, and making Easter Eggs. She was an active gardener even into her nineties. Betty enjoyed traveling the country with her husband, children and grandchildren.

She will always be remembered for being the honorary mother and grandmother of all who walked through the door of her home. She had a unique way of affecting the lives of those around her and never fully understood the positive imprint which resided in those she touched. Her quick wit and fun-loving nature always had family and friends engaged in bouts of laughter.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Mervin Lester Shields, two brothers Paul Stambaugh and Merle Stambaugh, one sister Helen B. Hake and her son-in-law, David P. Mehls. Memorial services will be held on Saturday February 16, 2019 at Shepherdstown United Methodist Church with visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00am and a service beginning at 11:00am. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, PA.
