Robert’s Obituary Robert Reid Longwell, age 64 of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019 at UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle. Robert was born on April 21, 1954 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of the late C. Reid Longwell and Jean (Irwin) Rooney.

Robert graduated from Franklin Regional High School and would later attend the University of Pittsburgh. After completing ROTC at Pitt, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He served on active duty from 1978 to 1989 and would later enter the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

During his military service, Robert would achieve the rank of Major. While serving in the military, Robert attended Golden Gate University, where he graduated with a MBA. He spent the remainder of his career working as an Investigator for the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.

Robert was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carlisle and the Dillsburg American Legion. He enjoyed genealogy and the research of his family’s history. Robert also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was very devoted to his family.

Robert is survived by his wife Laura (Mahler) Longwell; son Gregory Longwell and daughter-in-law Megan (Albert) Longwell of Mechanicsburg, PA; son William Longwell of Washington, DC; three sisters Marlyn Donelson of Pittsburgh, PA, Donna Kapner of Houston, TX, and Susan Elko of Flanders, NJ. He was the proud grandfather to three grandchildren and the proud uncle to six nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, PA.

Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wildcat Foundation – Mechanicsburg Area School District, 1225 South Market Street, Suite 1, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
