Obituary for Beverly Elaine Scheer Beverly Elaine Scheer (86) died on Monday, July 9 after a long illness. She is survived by her adoring husband of 67 years, Ray Scheer; four children, Sam (Massachusetts), Marjorie (North Carolina), Gene (New York) and Michael Scheer (New Jersey) , their spouses, Rosetta Cohen, Maximino Vargas, and Kristina Lechowski; and one grandchild, Elizabeth Cohen Scheer (Madison, WI). Bev led a remarkable life, filled with love, service to others, and meaningful work.

Born in Queens, New York, she moved to northern New Jersey where she taught elementary and middle school in the Chester, NJ school system for many years. During this time, Bev and her family spent their summers at Camp Mohawk in Cheshire, MA, where she herself had once been a camper. Western Massachusetts held deep importance for her, and when she retired from teaching in 1988, Bev and Ray moved to Williamstown, MA.

There, she ran Goldberry’s, a Bed and Breakfast, on Cold Spring Rd, welcoming visitors with her warm heart and wonderful baking. During her retirement, Bev also worked tirelessly on behalf of the local community. She volunteered at The Berkshire Food Project, read to the blind and supported a wide range of progressive causes.

Beverly leaves behind a loving family and great numbers of friends, all of whom will miss her deeply. Donations in her honor may be made to the Berkshire Food Project in North Adams, MA. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Beverly Elaine Scheer please visit our Sympathy Store.
