Obituary for Carmen L. Ortega Carmen L. Ortega, 93 of Grand Island died Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Wedgewood Care Center. Services will be 11 AM Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Father Scott Harter will officiate.

Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM till service time Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Carmen was born December 11, 1924 at Red Cloud, NE the daughter of Joe and Mary (Moreno) Rivera.

She was raised and received her education in Lexington. She was united in marriage to Frank Ortega following WWII. They made Grand Island their home in 1959.

She was a nurse’s aide for many years in Grand Island and then served as a Foster Grandparent at Lincoln Elementary School for seventeen years. She retired due to health reasons. Some of her enjoyments included playing bingo, crocheting, reading and fishing.

She is a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral. Survivors include her five children, Larry (Pat) Smith, Rose (Mark) Kane of Omaha, Frank Ortega, Jr., Sam (Jan) Ortega and Mary Lou (Clayton) Brooks all of Grand Island and nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank on August 13, 1986; three brothers, Tony, Manuel and Sam Rivera; three sisters, Patricia Rivera, Francis Rivera and Cecelia Porras; two infant siblings and granddaughter, Julie Wallace.
