Obituary for Judith “Judy” Briggs Judith “Judy” Anderson Briggs, 78, of Grand Island, left her earthly home on Thursday, May 31, 2018. Memorial service and celebration of Judy’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 9th, at All Faiths Funeral Home. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Judy was born June 9, 1939 in San Bernardino, CA, the daughter of Eskil “Andy” and Berniece (Keene) Anderson. She grew up in DeKalb, Illinois, graduating from High School, class of 1957. She went on to graduate from Cornell College at Mount Vernon, IA, before getting her Master’s in Education from Doane College.

On March 24, 1962, Judy married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Briggs in DeKalb. She went with him to Whidbey Island, WA, where he was stationed during his Navy enlistment. In 1965 they moved to Colorado and in 1976 made Grand Island their permanent home.

As an elementary educator for 40 years, Judy defined what it means to be a teacher. Her passion for education was only outdone by her commitment to the success of each and every one of her students. She taught at Lincoln School for 24 years, retiring in 2001.

Judy was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa Honor Society, the Grand Island Teachers Association and Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed volunteering at the Grand Island Library and at Saint Francis Day Care Center. Judy also enjoyed her monthly get-togethers with the Lady Lakers at Kuester Lake.

A wonderful, caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Judy will be dearly missed and always remembered by so many. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Dick; son, David Briggs of Lafayette, CO; two grandchildren, Amanda (Caitlin) Heeg of Omaha and Jeremy (Caleigh) Heeg of Aurora; and two beloved great-granddaughters, Clarice and Audrey. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Wendy (Briggs) Waterman; sister, Gail Anderson; and her favorite kitty, Marshmallow (aka Mel).
