Obituary for Dean F. Engelhaupt Dean Engelhaupt, 77, of Grand Island passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at CHI-Health St. Francis Medical Center. A Gathering of friends and family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. with Fr. Scott Harter leading the rosary to begin at 7 p.m. on Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Celebrant will be Fr. Jim Golka.
Inurnment will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Dean was born on June 22, 1941, in Alliance, NE, son of Richard and Velma (Lee) Engelhaupt.
He was raised in Alliance with his two brothers and graduated from St. Agnes Academy. He continued his education and attended Chadron State College and played football for the Chadron State Eagles. On August 19, 1967 Dean was united in marriage to Yvette Danielson at the Holy Rosary Parish in Alliance.
This union was blessed with three children and August 19, 2018 they would have celebrated their 51st anniversary. Soon after their marriage, Dean and Yvette made their home in Grand Island. Dean began his career as a salesman for Sterling Distributing of Omaha.
Dean enjoyed traveling around Nebraska to meet with his customers. Dean was a member of the Platte Deutsche, Knights of Columbus, the Eagles Club, the Elks Club, the Saddle Club, and their “Wednesday Supper Club”. He was also a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Cathedral.
Dean enjoyed playing golf and more recently watching golf. He was an avid hunter in earlier years, having many of his trophies mounted to be displayed in his home. He loved to play cards.
For over 30 years, Dean was a member of Riverside Golf Club and enjoyed the Poker, and Gin games. More recently Dean enjoyed playing cards at the Platte Deutsche. Dean adored all of his grandpuppies and loved his family.
He was so proud of his families’ accomplishments and encouraged them to follow their passions. Dean was always quick to share a story and lend a hand, if needed. Those left to share the story of Dean’s life include his wife, Yvette of Grand Island; son, Jeff Engelhaupt (Leah Wagoner and children, Trevor and Cody) of Doniphan; daughters, Jennifer Engelhaupt of Lincoln, and Amy (Michael) Dixon of Crete; brothers, Harold (Jan) Engelhaupt of Leawood, KS, Dale (Terry) Engelhaupt of Gering; sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Steve) Abegg of Everett, WA, and Carla Danielson of Lake Stevens, WA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
