CARY JAY SWITZER December 02, 1944 – March 13, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card CHICOPEE – Cary Jay Switzer, 74, passed away in the comfort of his home with family beside him on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Cary was born in Springfield on December 2, 1944, the son of the late Harold L. and Irene E. (Storm) Switzer and was raised and educated in local schools graduating from Springfield Technical High School. He was a 45-year employee of the Smith & Wesson Company in Springfield where he worked until 2012.

Cary was an avid Metal Detector in the local area but especially loved the time spent at Rye Beach in New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marguerite A. “Peggy” (Forgue) Switzer, a son, Jason Cary Switzer of Chicopee, a cherished granddaughter, Quinn Cary-Grace Switzer who brought so much pleasure to Cary, his Aunt, Mary Storm of Indian Orchard and several extended family members and friends. His family would like to say “Thank You” to Dr. Iyer and all the staff of the Caritas Cancer Center at Mercy Medical Center and to the employees of Trinity Health of New England Hospice, especially Erin Saunders, R.N., Social Worker Karen Lee and Chaplain Gary Grimes.

The calling hours will be held on Monday, March 18th at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee from 4 to 7 p.m. Family and friends are invited to meet for the celebration of Cary’s Funeral Mass on Thursday, March 21st in St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St., Chicopee at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that you consider a memorial contribution in Cary’s honor to Trinity Health of New England Hospice, 200 Hillside Circle, West Springfield, MA, 01089.
