Obituary of Clessie Hayes Clessie L. Axton Hayes, 71, lifelong resident of Marion, died on February 21, 2019. She was born on August 22, 1947, and was adopted by the late Lee and Hattie (King) Axton. Clessie graduated from Swayzee High School in 1966.

She was a big Elvis fan and enjoyed Gaither Homecoming concerts. She was retired as a nursing assistant from the VA Medical Center after 27 years of service. She loved her dog, Pepper.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Axton; sisters: Bernice (Jerry) Adkins, Huntington, and Debra Kennedy, Marion; brothers: Allen Porter, Marion; Dave Porter, Greenwood; Rick Porter, Fairmount; Bill Porter, Marion; and Paul “Butch” (Laura) Porter, Marion; grandson, Devin Axton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Clessie is preceded in death by her brother, Bob Porter. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner, Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave.

, Marion, IN. A funeral service for Clessie will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating.
