Ms. Connie Hooks Newsome, 73, of Swainsboro passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at Lakeside Rest Home following an extended illness. Ms. Newsome was born January 14, 1945 in Swainsboro, Ga. to the late John Hooks and Burnell Fordham Hooks.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lonzell Newsome; grandson, Trey Henry. Ms. Newsome lived all of her life in Emanuel County, she was a graduate of Swainsboro High School where she played basketball and was on the team that won the Tri-State Tournament 1961 & 1962, was Region Champs 1959-1962, and 1962 State Runner-Ups. She loved flowers, cooking, watching her boys play ball, and especially loved her fur companion, GiGi.

Ms. Newsome was a member of the Blundale Baptist Church. Survivors include her sons, Jeff Newsome (Sheri Johnson) of Swainsboro, Mitch Newsome (Mechelle) of Waynesboro, and Jason Newsome (Missy) of Swainsboro; brothers, J.W. Hooks (Mickey) of Swainsboro, and Ronnie Hooks of Naples, FL. ; sisters, Hazel Harris of Horton, AL.

, and Vickie Gay of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Justin “Bubba” Newsome, Jade Najair, Jada DeBoo, River Hendley, Jodi Singletery, Shane Johnson, Jeremy Havard, Whitney Williams, Trey Taylor, Haley Smith, Logon Newsome, Lance Newsome, Kyle Henry, and Hunter Henry; several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral Services will be in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 with Reverend David M. Boggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Corey Chalker, Shane Johnson, Shane Deloach, Tim Harrell, Randy Harris, and Ray Downer. Condolences may be expressed at www.
