Deaconess Agnes Salter Parker was born on July 25, 1941 to the late Ms. Maggie Lee Salter and Mr. Sunny Duggins in Tennille, GA. After the death of her parents, she was reared by the late Mr. Horace and Mrs. Mary Ann Jordan. Agnes accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Later in her adult life, she relocated to Swainsboro, GA where she met the love of her life Mr. Lee Edward Parker. After a short courtship, she and Lee Edward were united in Holy Matrimony on May 8, 1960. After the marriage, Agnes and Lee Edward was blessed with two adorable children, Gerald and Tammy.
Who they spoiled and loved unconditionally. Agnes moved her membership from the Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church to the Mt. Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church before her marriage, but then after her marriage she united with the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church alongside her husband, Dea.
Lee Edward Parker to continue her walk of faith in God. Agnes served faithfully and cheerfully in numerous capacities within the church. She served on the Mother’s Board, President of the Senior Choir, and Deaconess Ministry.
She was a member of the Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church #114 Eastern Star and Jethro Council Benevolence Society. After the death of her husband, she moved her membership to Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Swainsboro, GA, to be with the majority of the family where she could continue serving God and remained a faithful member unto death. Agnes followed her passion for children and families by opening the 1st Black owned Day Care Center, known throughout Georgia as “The Love and Care Daycare Center”.
She matriculated through Swainsboro Technical College and was a certified Child Care Provider. She worked at Emanuel County Hospital and Ithaca for many years until she and her husband decided to open her owned business and previously mentioned. She and her husband were also employed by Shephard, Gary and McWhorter Law Firm for more than 30 years.
On Monday, June 4, 2018, Deaconess Agnes Salter Parker completed her earthly mission following a brief illness. In addition to her biological parents and second parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Dea. Lee Edward Parker; a daughter, Ms. Tammy L. Parker; and a brother, Mr. William Graham, Jr
She leaves a legacy of cherished and loving memories to: three daughters/granddaughters: Mrs. Alexandria L. Walden (Mark); Ms. Alexis T. Parker – Roberson, and Ms. Agneilia L. Parker – Roberson all of Swainsboro, GA; one son, Mr. Gerald Lee Parker of Douglas, GA, a step daughter, Ms. Joe Ann Noriega of Newark, NJ; one sister, Mrs. Willie Lee Jordan of Sandersville, GA; one brother, Mr. Willie L. Graham, Jr. (Gladys) of Boston, MA; an adopted brother, Rev. James Allen (Mae Rose) of Miami, FL; two additional granddaughters, Mrs. La’Toya Roper (Willie) of Evans, GA and Ms. Gerkerea Hodges of Huntsville, AL; four grandsons, Mr. Christopher Parker and Mr. Gerald L. Parker, Jr., both of Swainsboro, GA, Mr. Antonio J. Scott of Columbia, SC, and Mr. Rashad Hodges of Sandersville, GA; five great –grandchildren she reared as her grandchildren: Little Miss McKinley L. Walden, Little Miss Taylor L. Roper, Master R’Tavien L. Green, Master Tyler A. Roper, and Master Landon E. Green; one aunt, Mrs. Vernell Salter of Sandersville, GA; one daughter – in – law, Ms. Willie Dean Parker of Swainsboro, GA; six sisters – in – law, Ms. Mattie M. Parker, Mrs. Alma W. Parker, Ms. Christine Parker, Mrs. Mary M. Parker, all of Swainsboro, GA, Mrs. Annie Bell Graham of Macon, GA, and Mrs. Maggie Pearl Salter of Sandersville, GA; two brothers – in – law, Dea. Ralph Parker (Lutricia) and Dea.
Johnny L. Parker, both of Swainsboro, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted grandchildren, other relatives and sorrowing friends. Funeral Services will be at the Swainsboro City Auditorium 2:00 p.m. June 9, 2018. Mrs. Parker will lie in state two hours prior to service.
Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. There will be a walk-in viewing from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home. Pallbearers are nephews.
