Cynthia Sue “Cindy” (Friend) Rinker, 65, of Swanton, MD, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at her home. Born March 18, 1953, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Bessie Friend. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy K. Rinker; a son-in-law, Brian D. Knox; a brother, Kenneth W. Friend.

Cindy retired after 33 years from Garrett County Memorial Hospital in the Central Services Department. She enjoyed crabbing and camping. Cindy loved her dogs Oliver and Rusty, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Richard B. Rinker; two daughters, Trisha L. Knox, Mt. Lake Park, MD; Jamie Beeman (Kevin), Oakland; a son, R. Scott Rinker (Dawn), Swanton; nine grandchildren, Kayla Knox Spurling (Tyler); Bryson Knox (fiancé Hanna Popp); Brianna Rinker Durst (Cody); Trenton Rinker; Mariah Beeman; KJ Beeman; Jeremy Martin; Alaina Rinker; Keira Rinker; one great grandchild, Harper Knox, and two on the way; four brothers, Martin Friend; William Sachs; August Knapp; Garry Mayfield; one sister, Dawn Bowman. Cindy donated her body to the Maryland Anatomy Board.

A celebration of her life will be held at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland in the reception hall, on Sunday, May 20th, 2018, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Garrett Regional Medical Center Foundation, 251 N 4th St., Oakland, MD 21550.
