Dallas Mills Penrod, age 91, passed away peacefully in the afternoon on Thursday, February 28, 2019. Dallas was born July 18, 1927 in Santa Monica, California to Floyd Alfred Penrod and Stella Jane Mills. Dallas grew up in Ogden Utah attending Mound Fort Junior High and Ogden High school.
Dallas served a mission for the LDS church in Southern California where he met his future wife Joann. They were married on April 28, 1952 in the Los Angeles Temple. Dallas worked for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach during their early years of marriage as an electronics technician and in the metal fabrication shop.
The family then moved to Brigham City to run his father business, Penrod’s Lock and Bike. Dallas served in the United States Navy as a pharmacist mate during World War II and served on the USS Blue. He enjoyed his time in the Navy and had many stories he told about his experiences while serving in the military.
He was able to go on the Honor Flight several years ago to Washington DC to see the World War II Memorial with his son Richard. That was a fun experience for them. Dallas enjoyed working with the public and the highlight of his day was to help anyone who needed assistance, sometimes not even charging them for his help.
After years of running the shop, Dallas went to work for Brigham City Community Hospital as the Chief Engineer. Dallas was a handyman and could fix or build anything. After his retirement from the hospital, he just enjoyed doing lock jobs for people and building and selling water barrel storage racks.
The highlight of retired years was working in the Ogden Temple with all four of his brothers. Then later he went on to serve in the Brigham City Temple where he found much joy. His most cherished things in life were his family, serving in and attending the Temple and the scriptures.
Dallas and Joann served missions together in Anaheim California, Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Martin’s Cove in Wyoming and at the Family history Library. Dallas and Joann were also recognized when they were chosen to be the Grand Marshals of the 2015 Peach Day Parade. He is survived by his wife Joann of nearly 67 years.
His children, Connie (Dell) Spanish Fork, Bart (Becky) Brigham City, Larry (Lynette) Kaysville, and Richard (Mary) Clifton Idaho. They have 21 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Lynn and Milton.
Family and friends can greet the family at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, in Brigham City on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM and Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Brigham City Utah North Stake Center located at 620 North 300 East in Brigham City. Funeral will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Brigham City cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the many doctors and nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, the Gables Assisted Living Center, Tender Care Hospice, and Myers Mortuary for the care and concern they provided to Dallas during this difficult time.
