David Arthur York, 77, began his exuberant journey hand-in-hand with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 30, 2018 surrounded by the love of his family and friends. David was born to the late Howard and Virginia (Harrington) York on October 27, 1940 in Princeton, KY. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Susan Howard York.

David certainly left his mark on the business world and community of Owensboro, KY, the place he felt blessed to call home for most of his life. David began his career as a CPA in Owensboro at York, Neel and Associates. Then he started a new path with David York and Associates, where he loved serving his clients, many of whom grew to be his close friends.

David, a graduate of Leadership Owensboro, Class of 1982 and Leadership Kentucky, Class of 1985, also served as President of Downtown Owensboro, Inc. and as a Delegate to the White House Conference on Small Businesses. He was honored to represent his community as a member of the Owensboro/Daviess County Chamber of Commerce from 1985-1988 and eventually as President of the Chamber. David was proud of his time on the Board of Directors of both KenTron and MPD.

He was also named In Business Magazine’s “Man of the Year”. He was the Chair of the Daviess County Republican Party in 2016. After earning a full scholarship to Centre College in Danville, KY, David graduated with honors.

He also played on the Centre Praying Colonels basketball team and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. David is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 27 years, Elli Peveler York; his three sons, David Todd York and Michael Lynn York, both of Louisville, and James “Theo” York of Lexington; his daughters, Casey Hamilton (Rob) of Owensboro and Marcey Finn of Glendora, NJ. Also surviving are his pride and joy – grandchildren, Addison and Jack Hamilton and Elli, Eva, Aiden, Maera and Anya Finn; and a brother, Steve York (Lynn) of Monticello, KY also survives.

Services will be at 11:11 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 in the Chapel at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 to 11:11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
