David Leroy Burch David Leroy Burch age 91, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018, from Dementia and COPD. David was born on December 11, 1926 in Albany, Texas to loving parents Bertha Peterson and Hilyard Leroy Burch. David was the only boy with four sisters: Ethel, Evelyn, Ilene, and Lillian (all deceased).
When David was a young boy his father passed away and his family moved back to Havre, Montana where he grew up. He spent the summers at his Aunt Ella’s ranch in Hinsdale, Montana. Dave served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War Il, being stationed in Germany, and upon returning to Havre, he met Ellen (Nena) Keown from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
They were married on June 1950. They had three children: David, Nena, and Edna. Ellen (Nena) passed away on October 5, 1977.
Dave and Nena bought a farm in Glasgow, Montana where they farmed and raised cattle until the Glasgow Air Base closed and they moved to Ogden, Utah. Dave worked at Valley motors in Havre, Montana, Glasgow Air Force Base, Glasgow, Montana, and Defense Depot Ogden in Ogden, Utah retiring in 1989 as an Automotive Inspector. A close friend and coworker at DDO Larry Abayta introduced Dave to June Melle, who also worked at DDO, and they were married on June 29, 1979.
Dave enjoyed hunting, skiing, and fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed collecting and polishing rocks and seeing the finished product. Dave always had a garden where he grew tomatoes and other vegetables that he shared with family and friends.
Dave was a member of the Ogden Garden club, serving two terms as President. He also served two terms as President of the Utah Associated Gardens Clubs. He was a life member of the National Garden Clubs Inc. Dave is survived by his wife June and children: David (Sheryl) Burch, Crystal River, Florida, Nena (Bruce) Crellin, Crystal River, Florida and Edna (Mike Hislop) Farr West, Utah.
He is also survived by four grandsons: Shane, Jamie, Joshua, and Michael, and five great-grandchildren: Anthony, Michael, Jacob, Zoe and D.J., several nieces and nephews, also O.C. the cat. The Family would like to give a big “Thank You” to all of the CNA’s and Nurses at Heritage Park in Roy, Utah for the great care they gave Dave. They also would like to thank Mary Ann, Chris, and Bruce at Canyon Hospice for their care of Dave.
A viewing will be held Sunday, September 9, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah, and also prior to the graveside service on Monday, September 10, 2018, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Huntsville Cemetery, 5600 E 100 S, Huntsville, Utah.
