DeWayne W. Shedeck, 84, of Oxford Junction passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018 at his home. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Oxford Junction. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 13 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Lahey & Dawson Funeral Service, Oxford Junction.

Burial will be held at a later date at Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction. DeWayne Walter Shedeck was born on April 6, 1934 on the family farm to Walter and Helen (Wray) Shedeck. He attended school in Lost Nation and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953.

When he was discharged he took some college courses and began working at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. On April 18, 1959 he married Mary Joy Ledvina in the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. They moved to the family farm in 1962.

DeWayne was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Oxford Junction and the American Legion Wapsie Post 473 of Oxford Junction, where he served as Commander. He loved fishing, especially his trips to Canada, playing cards at TLZ and spending winters in his Arizona home. His grandchildren made him proud and he loved attending their events.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 60 years Mary Joy Shedeck, three children; Marcy (Jeff) Williams of Davenport, Murray (Michele) Shedeck of Oxford Junction, Molly (Mark) Nyman of St. Charles, Ill. , eight grandchildren; Kayla (Jake) Toft of Bettendorf, Kyle Williams of Moline, Ill. , Mercedes (Brian) Hansen of Tipton, Marshall Shedeck of Des Moines, Myles Shedeck of Cedar Rapids, Connor Nyman of Aurora, Ill.

, Taylor (Paul) Brandwein of St. Charles, Ill. , Paige (Cal) Nolan of St. Charles, Ill. , four great-grandchildren; Elliot Joy and Henry Toft and Mason and Beau Brandwein and three sisters; Violet (Larry) Fleshner of Dysart, Eileen (John) Wosoba of Punta Gorda, FL and Teresa (Jack) Sides of Granbury, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Delores Ruchotzke and Marlene Ruchotzke. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to his family in his honor.
