Obituary for Donald Hedges Jr. Donald A Hedges Jr. May 7, 1932 – April 18, 2018 Don was born on May 7, 1932, in New London, CT. to Don and Alice (Pokornicky) Hedges Sr They traveled a lot with his father’s military career as a Submariner.

Don’s favorite time was in Hawaii. He went to Punahou on a football scholarship and played for Don Coryell. Following high school, Don Jr. entered the US Navy.

After his two-year stint as a Submariner on the USS SABALO, his fried, Coach Don Coryell, urged him to come play for the Wenatchee Valley College Knights. The year was 1955 and they also recruited a number of Hawaiian students. Don Jr. played running back and Coach Coryell used the I-formation because Don was too slow at his position.

Don finished his education at the University of Washington. Following a long courtship, he finally married the love of his life, Minnette (Luebber) on June 25, 1966, and they had three beautiful children, Ty, Shea and Elizabeth. As Don’s sons were growing up, they became very involved with Little League and were instrumental with improving the Cherry Street ball park, especially the concessions stand.

Don was very proud of his snow cone machine. Operating their apple orchards consumed the rest of their time. Donald is survived by his wife, Minnette Hedges of Wenatchee, WA; Son, Ty Hedges, of East Wenatchee, WA; and grandson, Trent Hedges, of Leavenworth, WA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Shea Hedges, and infant daughter, Elizabeth Hedges. A Commemoration Service will be on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 10:00 am at Heritage Memorial Chapel, located at 19 Rock Island Road in East Wenatchee, WA. Viewing will be held at Heritage Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 3:00 – 8:00 pm.
