Edward’s Obituary Edward P. Ziegler, 89, Minot, formerly of Karlsruhe and Balfour, ND, went to his reward Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Trinity Hospital in Minot. Edward Philip Ziegler was born March 23, 1929, to Sebastian and Margaret (Koble) Ziegler, on the family farm located south of Karlsruhe, ND. He was raised there and attended school in Karlsruhe.

As a young adult he assisted his parents with the operation of the family farm. Ed married Lorraine J. Wald June 12, 1956, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot for a time before moving to rural Balfour, where they farmed and raised their three sons: David, Dean and Duane.

They farmed until 1980, when they moved back to Minot. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Balfour and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot. He was also a member of several school, township, and elevator boards.

Besides being a farmer, Ed was also a talented and hard-working carpenter, leaving his mark on various projects throughout the region and their family home. He spent countless days enjoying his passion of hunting and fishing with his boys and grandkids. During baseball season, you could find him settled into his chair cheering on his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.

His sweet tooth was unmatched by most as well as his singing. He seemed to have a song for every occasion. He loved to make everyone around him laugh with his goofy sense of humor.

Above all, Ed was kind, compassionate and a friend to everyone. His loving family includes: wife of 62 years, Lorraine; sons, David (Kimberly) Ziegler, Dean (Nancy) Ziegler, Duane (Lisa) Ziegler; grandchildren, Edward (Stephanie) Ziegler, Nicholas Ziegler, Justin Ziegler, Kristin Ziegler, Kelsey Ziegler, Logan (Sara) Ziegler, Allison Ziegler, Jordan Ziegler, Jaclyn (Brady) Hauge; great-grandchildren, Leo and Violet Ziegler; sisters, Katherine Ganje, Helen (Virgil) Frost, and Frances Carroll; brother, Henry (Patty) Ziegler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rose Ziegler, Virginia Ripplinger, Frances Ziegler, Judy Haglund, Harold (Elayne) Wald, Norwich, James (Helen) Wald, Surrey, Teresa Larson, and Mary Ann (Bob) Larson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, John (Verna) Ziegler, Adam Ziegler, Conrad (Anne) Ziegler, Magdalene (Ben) Van Eckhout, Joseph Ziegler, Alex Ziegler, Daniel Ziegler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward Ganje, Jerome Larson, Michael Carroll, Helen (Johnny) Keller, John Wald and Andy (Mathilda) Wald; Regina (John) Klein, Appie (Donald) Rademacher, Ann (Ralph) Black, Leona (Richard) Mosser, and Rose (Jerry) Schwan.
