Obituary of Eugene Smith Eugene Lloyd Smith, known to all as “Smitty” passed away in The Dalles, Oregon on April 29, 2018 at the age of 89. He was born in Browning, Missouri to Frank and Mary Susan (Crane) Smith on July 11, 1928. Smitty spent his childhood in Missouri and on August 22, 1949 he married Dorthy Julia Zimmerman in Bloomfield.

The couple moved to the Northwest in 1952 where Smitty worked building dams. He was the first person to pour concrete at the Rock Reach Dam in Wenatchee and built the walkways on top of The Dalles Dam. After working on dams, Smitty became a farmer, which he truly loved.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, visiting with people and of course, farming. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Dorthy Smith of Lyle; daughters Lorena Sue Rhodes of Pendleton, Oregon, Eugenia Elaine Allen of Goldendale, charlotte Gail Landry of Lyle and Cindy Mae Brabender of Murdock; son Lloyd Dean Smith of Bingen; and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, ten brothers and sisters, two grandchildren and one great great grandson.

A funeral service will be held at Gardner Funeral Home on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. with interment at Lyle Balch Cemetery in Lyle, Washington.
