Obituary for Fr. Brian Tomlinson OFM Cap. Fr.

Brian Tomlinson OFM Cap. , passed away on the evening of March 10, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh, NY. He was 80.

Fr. Brian was born in Bronx, NY on June 17, 1937, the son of the late John and Margaret Tomlinson. Fr.

Brian made his first Profession of vows on August 3, 1958, at Our Lady of Angels in Staunton, VA. He was ordained on April 3, 1965, at St. Francis DeSales Church in Geneva, NY by Bishop James Kearney. Following ordination he served as director of students, vocation promoter, novice master and guardian at St. Lawrence Friary, Beacon, NY until 1980 when was transferred to St. Francis High School Seminary in Lafayette, NJ to serve as rector.

After his time in Lafayette, he ministered to the parishes of: St. Anthony’s, Passaic, NJ; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Orange, NJ; St. Francis, Hackensack, NJ; and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Passaic, NJ as Associate Pastor and as Pastor.

At various times he served on the Provincial Council and worked in the Development Office. He was twice elected Minister Provincial. In addition to his parents, Fr.

Brian is predeceased by three of his siblings, Elizabeth, James and Margaret. He is survived by his four other siblings, John, Mary, Thomas, Patrick, and their spouses, along with several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 14 from 3 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Friary, 180 Sargent Avenue, Beacon, NY.

Calling hours will also be held on Thursday, March 15 from 3 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, 10 St. Francis Way, Passaic, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt.

Carmel Parish, Passaic, NJ. Burial will take place at St. Lawrence Friary Cemetery, Beacon, NY. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Patrick J. Halvey of Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, LLC.
