Obituary of Gerald Davis Gerald H. Davis, Jr., age 96, of Corning, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. Gerald was born on November 25, 1921 in Corning to Gerald and Hattie (Scouten) Davis, Sr. Jerry graduated from Corning Free Academy in the Class of 1939 and soon after joined the National Guard. He was drafted by the New York Yankees Farm Team, but instead answered the call of the US Army.

He began his active duty in 1941. After being chosen for Officers Training School he ultimately obtained the rank of Captain. Gerald joined the Army Reserve and was recalled to the Korean Conflict serving from 1950 – 1952.

In 1944, Jerry married Rosalyn Fisher, whom he had met during their mutual service in the US Army. Married for 72 years, he was totally devoted to her until her death in 2016. After their return to Corning, Jerry worked for Corning Glass Works as a facilities planning engineer until his retirement in the early 1980’s.

He was a very proud, active member, and Past President of the Corning Lion’s Club for 65 years. He was a member of the Town of Corning Planning Board for several years. He was also a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Gibson for most of his life.

As a natural athlete, he continued to play golf until last summer, enjoying rounds with his friends, son, and grandson Stephen. He is survived by two daughters, Dee (David) Mosher of Elmira and Debbie (Ernie) Wein of Niskayuna, NY; son, Jeff (Marianne) Davis of Ooltewah, TN; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and his loving nieces and nephew. Gerald was predeceased by his wife, Rosalyn; brother, Harold; two sisters, Eleanore VanEtten and Fannie Reno.

The family especially wants to thank so many friends, family members and others who offered help, support, and kindness, including his caregiver, Michelle Simmons; special friend, Rhonda Yochum; neighbor, Cheryl Price; and Pastor, Jeff Becker who has been caring, kind, and indispensable in our times of need. Jerry will be remembered as the steadfast rock of our family, for his selfless generosity and a legacy unmatched. He will be dearly missed.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 16th from Noon until 2 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning where funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Reverend Jefferey Becker officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery Annex. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 2915 Main Street, Corning, NY 14830.
