Jean A. (Stitt) Casella, 93, of Kiski Township, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at home. Born July 30, 1925 in North Apollo, she was a daughter of the late Edward Leroy Stitt & Frances Caroline (Newton) Stitt. Jean lived in the Apollo area all of her life, and was a 1943 graduate of Apollo High School.

She worked for a time at Murphy’s Five and Dime in Vandergrift, and was a member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church, where she was active in church fundraisers. … Read More » Jean was an original member of the first Girl Scout Troop in North Apollo, and she served as a Brownie Leader in Kiski Township as an adult. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Russell Casella, who passed away in 1975; brother, Herbert J. Stitt; and her sisters, Susan J. Marquardt & Frances C. Barto.

She is survived by her children, Jessi A. Casella of Apollo, Edward T. (Donna) Casella of Kiski Township, Calvin L. (Linda) Casella of Houston, PA; grandchildren, Natalie J. (Shad) Jaworskyj, Marla C. (Dan) Anthony, Matthew A. Casella, Ailena M. (Richard) Aikins all of Kiski Township, Cara D. (Levi) Steele of Washington Township; great grandchildren, Jonah Casella, Madison & Maycen Anthony, Finleigh Aikins; brother, Edward L. Stitt of North Apollo; sisters, Nina Gilfert of Leesburg, FL, Judy Bennett of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave. , Apollo.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Sara Wrona officiating. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Jean’s many caregivers over the years, especially close friend Mary Bash.
