Lawrence H. “Larry” Yamber, 84, of Oklahoma Borough, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at home. Born September 14, 1934 in East Vandergrift, he was a son of the late Joseph Yamber & Margaret (Bernat) Yamber. Larry was a 1952 graduate of Vandergrift High School, and has lived in Oklahoma Borough since 1965.

Larry worked for various companies over the years, but was well-known as the longtime maintenance… Read More » director for Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in East Vandergrift, where he was also a member, and served in many capacities over the years. Larry was also a director at the Slovak Club in East Vandergrift, and member of the Polish Club there as well.

He loved polka music & dancing, and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, enjoying the Steelers and Pirates. In the past, Larry was an active bowler, and participated in a league with the Slovak Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, Richard Yamber; and his half-sister, Jane Ban.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lillian A. “Lee” (Catlos) Yamber; daughters, Karen L. (David) Church of Kepple Hill, Lynn M. Yamber of East Vandergrift; step-grandchildren, Wendy, Eric, Angela; step-great-grandchildren, Ben, Luke, Aniyah, Serenity, Tammy; siblings, Donald Yamber of Hyde Park, Loretta Putignano of Vandergrift, Margaret (Forrest) Decker of Trafford, Rosie (Tim) Retter of Gilbert, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Friends will be received on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave. , Apollo.

Parting prayers of transfer will take place in the funeral home on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, East Vandergrift, with Father Michael Sciberras as celebrant. Entombment in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the church or a Veteran’s organization of one’s choice in Larry’s memory.
