Jean McCoy passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on Wednesday, July 18, in her adopted home of Asheville, NC. Her three children and her granddaughter, Sasha, were with her at her departure. Our troubled world has suffered a major loss with Jean’s death.

She was always the epidemy of grace and a lifelong model of quiet independence and unwavering kindness. Jean was a loving and equal partner in her marriage to Bob McCoy, and a nurturing Mother to her children: Rick, Marcus, and Sally. She will also be missed by her sister: Marilyn; and her four nephews who still live in Michigan.

She was gifted in her ability to balance firm limits and high expectations with unconditional love. Our Mother spent her life serving others as a teacher, an active member of her church, an engaged community member, and most often by preparing and serving incredible meals for her immediate family, and numerous friends, and the greater community. In fact, she will be most remembered by those who loved her as a gracious hostess.

There will be a simple Memorial Service for Jean at 3PM Sunday, July 22, 2018, at First Baptist Church on the Town Square in Burnsville. Mom was especially proud of Sally’s work in founding and maintaining Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Program and would wish that anyone who chooses to commemorate her passing with a symbol, make a gift to this program at atrcriding.com. Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home is serving the McCoy family.
