Jeanne’s Obituary Jeanne E. Achterman (Setzer-Greiner) of Stroudsburg, PA passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown surrounded by family. Born January 23, 1927, Jeanne lived nearly her entire life in Stroudsburg, only moving in 2017 to Country Meadows in Allentown after the death of her husband of 61 years, Leo A. Achterman, Jr.. After graduating from Stroudsburg High School in 1944, Jeanne began nurses training at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia.

After earning her Registered Nursing Degree, she came home to Stroudsburg to begin work as an operating room nurse at East Stroudsburg General Hospital. Jeanne married William J. Greiner, Sr This union was sadly cut short with the untimely death of her husband, Bill from polio.

In 1955, Jeanne found love again when she married Leo. Although she retired from full time nursing, Jeanne kept very busy raising a son and a daughter from her to marriage to Bill Greiner and two daughters from her marriage to Leo. Over her lifetime she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg and also volunteered many hours to the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, and the Monroe County Senior Citizens Craft Store.

A very skilled seamstress, Jeanne was known for her beautiful tailoring. She also enjoyed needlework and trying new cuisines in her kitchen. However, she best enjoyed the time she and Leo spent traveling.

Together, they traveled to exotic places such as Russia, China, Alaska, Scandinavia and through the Panama Canal, but they equally enjoyed the time they spent on Cape Cod, boating the Chesapeake Bay and road trips across the United States. Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, Claude Setzer and Helen (Clugston) Setzer; her sister, Doris Butz; her husbands, William J. Greiner, Sr. and Leo A. Achterman, Jr; ; as well as her son, William J. Greiner. She is survived by her daughters, Claudia Greiner Cierlitsky (Frank, dec’d), Sandra Achterman (Steve) and Karen Achterman (Bruce); and her daughter-in-law, Susan Herr Greiner.

She is also survived by six grandchildren, William J. Greiner (Tammy), Kristine Greiner Giovaneli (Jeff), Matthew Cierlitsky (Eri), Jennifer Cierlitsky, Rebecca Owens Schneider (Steve), and Alexandra Ingignoli; and nine great grandchildren, Will, Drew, Wes and Emily Greiner, Asahi Cierlitsky, Allison and Nathan Schneider, and Chase and Olivia Giovanelli. Services will be held on Monday, February 11th from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with visitation beginning at 1:30pm followed by the memorial service at 2:30pm with Rev. Eric Moser officiating.

Cremation was private and burial will be at a later date at Stroudsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.
