Joan Ann Smith, 78, formerly of Glen Burnie, died Monday December 17, 2018 at Carroll Lutheran Village. Born on December 4, 1940 in Laurel, she was the daughter of the late Joseph DeVoter and Pauline Elizabeth Hines. She was the wife of the late Rodney D. Smith.

Before retiring she worked for the Department of Defense. After retirement, she discovered her love of painting and became an avid painter. She attended First Presbyterian Church in Westminster.

She is survived by three daughters Debra A. Smith, Stephanie A. Smith, and Jennifer A. Gross all of Finksburg, one sister Mabel Marr, four brothers Joseph, John, Brian “Stephen”, and Mark DeVoter, two granddaughters Lindsey and Megan Gross, and one aunt Rose Collins. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Barbara Ridgeway and a brother Douglas DeVoter.

Memorial Services will be held on January 19, 2019 at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church, 65 Washington Road, Westminster, with Rev. Matthew Glasgow officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Maryland at Alzheimer’s Association 1850 York Road, Suite D Timonium, MD 21093 or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
