John Albert Pedigo, Sr. died on July 3, 2018 peacefully at his home. John was born in Henry County on September 24, 1929 to the late Daniel C. Pedigo, Sr. and Ola Bowyer Pedigo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice P. Dyer and Mary Pedigo; two brothers, Daniel C. Pedigo, Jr. and Herman D. Pedigo; and a special brother-in-law, Victor P. Keay.

He received the “National Defense Medal,” “Good Conduct Medal,” “United Nations Service Medal,” and the “Korean Service Medal”. Mr. Pedigo retired from Bassett Mirror Company after 51 years of service in supervision.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville, VA, where he was a “Lifetime Deacon,” member of the “Centennial Sunday School Class,” “Baptist Men’s Group,” “Thursday Morning Bible Study Group,” and former member of the “Jubilante Choir”. He enjoyed his church, writing poetry and songs, playing golf, and being with his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Jeanne McCrickard Pedigo; daughter, Leslie Pedigo Horton (Bill); son, John Pedigo, Jr. (Kerry); two brothers, James Pedigo of Martinsville, VA and Paul Pedigo of Troutdale, VA; six grandchildren, Thomas Pedigo (Blair), Whitney Badramraju (Santosh), Heather P. Gray, Christopher Horton, Carter Horton, John Pedigo, III (J.J.)’ and three great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 6, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Martinsville, VA with Dr. Dennis Knight officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Martinsville, 23 Starling Avenue, Martinsville, VA 24112 or to Grace Network, P.O. Box 3902, Martinsville, VA 24115. The family would like to thank Bridgett Lewis and the SOVAH Hospice nurses and hospice chaplain for their love and care of John.
