James Wenthford Garrett, 82, of Martinsville, VA died on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem, Virginia. He was born March 19, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to the late John Washington Garrett and Esther Etolia Dobbins Garrett. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, John Thomas Garrett.

In 1968, James moved to Martinsville where he owned and operated Garrett’s Barber Shop and Laundromat for three decades. James is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Marie Murphy Garrett; and his only sister, Dorotha Garrett Ramsey of Charlottesville, Virginia.

His two “sons,” their cats, Angelo and Ed will miss their papa. Eight nieces and nine nephews are also part of James’ family. James’ funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Joe Nunley officiating.

Burial will be held at Halifax Memorial Gardens, 3211 Halifax Road, South Boston, Virginia at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018. Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory of Martinsville, VA is serving the Garrett family.
