Thomas Jefferson Hall, 97, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on September 12, 2018 at Blue Ridge Village, Martinsville, VA. Tom was born in Franklin County to Fred and Hettie (Amos) Hall on March 2, 1921. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Christine, his brothers, Alvin, Sam Henry, Walter, and (Lloyd) Frank and sisters Melba Lynch and Hazel Barker.

He went to school at Redwood Elementary and graduated from Franklin High School. He married Christine Martin… Read More » on April 14th, 1949. He worked as a Power House Mechanic for E.I DuPont for 32 years.

He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army Air Corp in the China Burma India (CBI) theatre as a B-24 Flight Engineer. Tom was one of the founders of the Martinsville DuPont Employees Credit Union, known today as Valley Star Credit Union. “Big Tom” as he was known to the people inside the Credit Union, was the last surviving founder having served in numerous positions, concluding as the President and Chairman of the Board before retiring after 45 years of service.

Tom was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church in Martinsville where he served as a deacon and elder. He also served as the church treasurer for over 25 years. Tom is survived by his son, Jon Thomas and his wife Betty (Pace) of Kennewick, Washington, and three sisters, Lula Cradock of Stuart, Joyce Shively of Roanoke, and June Stanley of Lexington, VA.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Sonya Penn for her love and dedication during Tom’s final years. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville, Virginia. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville, VA with Creighton Beatty and Tim Hunt officiating.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW Ford Post 4637, 2327 Old Chatham Rd Martinsville, VA 24112-6584. Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory of Martinsville, VA is serving the Hall family.
