Obituary for John E. Stollenwerk John E. Stollenwerk, 78, of York, PA died May 25, 2018 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. He was the husband of Karen (Knaak) Stollenwerk. Mr. and Mrs. Stollenwerk celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on April 15, 2018.

Born November 4, 1939 in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of the late Edward and Esther (Christensen) Stollenwerk. John graduated from Boy’s Technical High School in Milwaukee in 1957. He earned his associate degree in mechanical engineering from Milwaukee Institute of Technology.

He served 6 years in the Wisconsin Air National Guard from 1957 to 1963. John joined Caterpillar in Milwaukee in 1957 and entered the Machinist Apprenticeship program. He held various positions that included foreman, general foreman, facilities planning engineer, and production manager.

In 1975, John relocated to Caterpillar’s corporate office in Peoria, IL as a Materials Planning manager. He then moved to York in 1978 and retired from Caterpillar with 40 years of service in 1997 as Logistics Manager. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in York.

John enjoyed traveling, sports cars, NASCAR and fishing. His children and grandchildren were a very important part of his life. In addition to his loving and caring wife, Karen, he is survived by his 2 daughters, Lori and her husband, Steven Smith of York and Lisa and her husband, Brad Stauch of Hershey; his son, Jay and his wife, Marne (Lewis) Stollenwerk of Orlando, FL; 5 granddaughters, Kara Smith, Marie Smith, Jordan Smith, Annie Stollenwerk, and Mattie Stollenwerk; 2 grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Stauch; a sister, Janice (Stollenwerk) Kempowski of Milwaukee, a sister-in-law, Kathleen Lee of Hastings, MN; and 9 nieces and nephews and numerous family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Edward Stauch and 2 brothers-in-law, Eugene Kempowski and Phillip Lee. Following cremation, the family is taking him home for a Mass of Christian Burial that will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 353 E. Norwich Street, Milwaukee, WI 53207. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cudahy, WI.

A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on June 30th. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Acres Auxiliary, 118 Pleasant Acres Road, York, PA 17402 or to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, 341 E. Norwich Street, Milwaukee, WI 53207. The family would like to thank everyone at Pleasant Acres for their caring hands and loving hearts.
